26.2 Miles of Pure Romance
Amazing...that he can do it that is.
So we dropped the kiddies off with their cousin Jaina, oh and the rest of the family, for a fun-filled weekend in Sanford, NC while we headed off for a romantic weekend getaway in Myrtle Beach.
BJ was out the door around 5ish on Vday to make it to the starting line for the MB Marathon...his head full of romantic thoughts I'm sure.
I slept in enough to see him at mile 4, 14, and 26!!! The race route was such that I could see him a bunch without having to drive anywhere, I just walked and it was so nice, even if I did feel like I had run a marathon by the end of the day too from the way my feet hurt! I know, how dare I compare the two!?! Despite soggy pants (from the rain!) and sore feet, I thoroughly enjoyed myself cheering my lungs out for hundreds of people I'd never met. I definitely outdid it with an all out "Run Honey Run!" right at The Finish (We love you Jamie and Bryce!)
By the way, BJ ran a fabulous race. He got to run a portion of it with a good friend, Ben Holladay, which I think he enjoyed. Overall, he had fun and felt good the whole way. I couldn't be more proud!

Dr. Beege is IN
So, I really had fun with the "Dr. Beege" section of our newsletter and would like to answer questions that you have for me. Remember I am not a medical doctor, but a pharmacist in training with a dry sense of humor. Please send inquiries to the following email address
edwards.bj@gmail.com
I will answer select questions as they come in.

Dr. Beege Searches for a Residency
Hey folks,
So apparently I have been so busy over the last 6 months to post anything. It is sort of true. School has gotten extremely busy since the start of the new year. I don't really have any excuses before that. I did spend most of December and January researching, searching and applying for residency programs. While you don't have to complete a residency to be a pharmacist it does open a few doors. It would allow me to get a more clinical job meaning I would have patient interaction and maybe a little more input into a patient's care. It would also help me to get a clinical faculty position which is one career I think that I would enjoy.
So after thoroughly enjoying my geriatric rotation in June (see post in last July). I decided that I would like a residency that had a geriatric focus. There are basically 3 programs in the country that are a first year program with an emphasis in geriatrics (old people). There are another handful that would like you to have a one year general residency before you apply to their geriatrics specialty residency. the three programs are in Greenville, NC; Gainesville, FL and St. Louis MO. I applied to a few other programs, but only interviewed at those three. The way this works is a match program. So I rank the programs I would like to attend and the programs then rank the students that they would like. These ranks are then entered into a computer program (hopefully slightly less complicated than the BCS system) and you are then "matched" to a program and are obligated to attend that one. You could easily liken this to "match.com" or "ldssingles.org" for pharmacy residents.
So the big day that we find out where we will go for the next year is March 18th. If y'all are lucky then I will actually post the results on the blog when I find out. In the meantime take advantage of our poll and vote for where you would like us to end up next year.

The Best Christmas Gift EVER!
While I was off at scout camp lounging around, training to become a lifeguard Julie was at home slaving away on my Christmas gift ever. Yes she finished it before Christmas and I am just tardy in posting to the blog.

If you can't tell she took all my old swimming T-shirts and turned them into a quilt. How cool is that? Very cool. After you ask, "how did she do that" only one question remains...
Is 11 T-shirts enough for a marathon themed quilt or do I need to run more?

What is it with wildlife in my house?!?!
So we cleaned out the car today. Quite the process. I string together about 7 extension cords to get the vacuum to reach our car. While doing this, I leave the front door open a bit to leave room for the cords to go through. Today just happened to be extra extra windy - not that that had anything to do with what happened. We completed the job fairly uneventfully and dragged everything back in to get Cambree up from her nap. I stopped in the kitchen to grab a drink and I saw this whitish black stuff on the counter. Wow, that looks surprisingly like bird droppings I thought... but no. Probably it was something that came from someone's nose or worse, mouth. I headed upstairs preparing myself for whatever might be in Cambree's diaper.
...2 minutes later Haylee runs upstairs, "Uh Mom, come downstairs. I want to show you something."
"In a minute, my hands are-"
"It's a bird! In the pantry!"
I thought it was funny that Haylee was the calm one here. My first instinct was to grab the broom and shoo that dang thing out the door, screaming at it all the while. Well that of course, scared that blasted bird into flying all over the place, leaving his, shall we say mark? all around the house. After watching the bird smack into the sliding door 5 or 6 times it occurred to me to open it up. Finally, after what seemed like a long time but really wasn't (just long enough for Cambree to find a not so hidden bag of Vday candy, tear into it, and get chocolate everywhere) we got the bird to fly out the back door.
We spent a good part of the remainder of the afternoon searching for and cleaning up bird droppings. At least it didn't come upstairs. Well, we hope it didn't. We have no evidence of that...yet.
Many of you know we've had mice issues ever since we've lived here. I despise mice. But, as Haylee very intelligently remarked while we were cleaning up, "Maybe the birds will chase the mice away."
That's my girl. Always looking on the bright side...
I later wondered why I freaked out as I did. Maybe it's because I watched part of Hitchcock's The Birds movie yesterday. Or maybe it's because unleashed, unwanted, living animals do not belong inside. That, I have determined, is why we have doors and I intend to keep mine shut from now on. We'll have to figure out another way to clean out the car.
