A Season to Celebrate

BJ's birthday, Julie's birthday and Easter come very close together for our family...they sort of just get all combined together into one big, extended holiday (sort of like how every state east of the Mississippi is like one big state to someone who lived in Salt Lake all his life) But no one's complaining here. Parties, cake, candy, presents and extra time spent with cousins make for a giddy, if extremely overtired, happy family.

Happy Birthday Daddy!

Making apple pie for Mommy's bday...I didn't help one bit, well except for some tips here and there, and it tasted delicious.

This year, I was concerned more about getting a picture of the girls in their new, homemade, Easter jammies than in their dresses. Probably since I stitched and unstitched each pair an average of 3 times. So, although my seam ripper is now duller than the blunt end of my butter knives, I have successfully completed sewing my first items of clothing.

Sweet Haylee. She is always one to keep things in perspective. Why do we celebrate Easter I ask? Because Mommy. Jesus was "rerected" and He got lots of big owies because He loves us.

Look Mom, no hands!

First egg hunt for both kids. Once we explained how it worked they did great, well for the most part. We thought Haylee would be pretty hesitant because it was new and all and she usually is with stuff like this but somehow this time, she overcame her anxieties and raced the big kids for the eggs.

Cambree had a couple handicaps. For example, she doesn't run very well on uneven ground without watching where she's going and carrying something other than, say, a half-empty sippy cup. She fell a bunch, not that she cared or even noticed. Secondly, she opened each egg she found and ate the contents on location. Often the contents spilled in the muddy grass and she ended up with mystery "jelly beans". I don't think she'll be one of those kids that keeps her Halloween candy through the 4th of July.

Meanwhile, Back at the Ranch

So, while BJ and I were romancing in MB SC, Haylee ran her very first race too back in Sanford with her cousins. A kids' 1 mile fun run. I know she had fun and was even more impressed with herself to see that she got a bib number just like Daddy's!

Then poor, strong Aunt Mindy got to push Haylee and Cambree (and another nameless toddler) through an entire 5k. Go Min!

Please note Haylee's racing attire. Skirts with hearts on them (for Vday of course) do help you run faster.

Green Thumb

I know in the very deepest part of my heart that someday in the very far distant future, I will laugh at this. I might even laugh about all the dirt that fell on the floor off her little bod in the bathroom as I threw her in the tub that quickly turned to a mud puddle when several cupfuls of tub water were thrown on the floor when I went to get the broom.

I might laugh.

Maybe.
Let me just add that although you only see the table in the pictures, the floor around the table probably had 3 times the amount of dirt. Just a note.

26.2 Miles of Pure Romance

Amazing...that he can do it that is.

So we dropped the kiddies off with their cousin Jaina, oh and the rest of the family, for a fun-filled weekend in Sanford, NC while we headed off for a romantic weekend getaway in Myrtle Beach.

BJ was out the door around 5ish on Vday to make it to the starting line for the MB Marathon...his head full of romantic thoughts I'm sure.

I slept in enough to see him at mile 4, 14, and 26!!! The race route was such that I could see him a bunch without having to drive anywhere, I just walked and it was so nice, even if I did feel like I had run a marathon by the end of the day too from the way my feet hurt! I know, how dare I compare the two!?! Despite soggy pants (from the rain!) and sore feet, I thoroughly enjoyed myself cheering my lungs out for hundreds of people I'd never met. I definitely outdid it with an all out "Run Honey Run!" right at The Finish (We love you Jamie and Bryce!)

By the way, BJ ran a fabulous race. He got to run a portion of it with a good friend, Ben Holladay, which I think he enjoyed. Overall, he had fun and felt good the whole way. I couldn't be more proud!

Dr. Beege is IN

So, I really had fun with the "Dr. Beege" section of our newsletter and would like to answer questions that you have for me. Remember I am not a medical doctor, but a pharmacist in training with a dry sense of humor. Please send inquiries to the following email address

edwards.bj@gmail.com

I will answer select questions as they come in.

Dr. Beege Searches for a Residency

Hey folks,

So apparently I have been so busy over the last 6 months to post anything. It is sort of true. School has gotten extremely busy since the start of the new year. I don't really have any excuses before that. I did spend most of December and January researching, searching and applying for residency programs. While you don't have to complete a residency to be a pharmacist it does open a few doors. It would allow me to get a more clinical job meaning I would have patient interaction and maybe a little more input into a patient's care. It would also help me to get a clinical faculty position which is one career I think that I would enjoy.

So after thoroughly enjoying my geriatric rotation in June (see post in last July). I decided that I would like a residency that had a geriatric focus. There are basically 3 programs in the country that are a first year program with an emphasis in geriatrics (old people). There are another handful that would like you to have a one year general residency before you apply to their geriatrics specialty residency. the three programs are in Greenville, NC; Gainesville, FL and St. Louis MO. I applied to a few other programs, but only interviewed at those three. The way this works is a match program. So I rank the programs I would like to attend and the programs then rank the students that they would like. These ranks are then entered into a computer program (hopefully slightly less complicated than the BCS system) and you are then "matched" to a program and are obligated to attend that one. You could easily liken this to "match.com" or "ldssingles.org" for pharmacy residents.

So the big day that we find out where we will go for the next year is March 18th. If y'all are lucky then I will actually post the results on the blog when I find out. In the meantime take advantage of our poll and vote for where you would like us to end up next year.
